What We Do

1:1 Pastoral Mentoring & Counselling for positive mental health & emotional wellbeing
We spend the time needed to listen to young people struggling to cope with a range of mental health and wellbeing difficulties. We encourage and champion them, and communicate our belief in them and their potential.
We inform young people of the neuroscience and psychology behind behaviour; teaching cognitive behavioural (CBT) and solution-focused (SFT) strategies to empower them to build their resilience to overcome difficulties.
We provide the opportunity for reflection and engagement in creative activities.
We are trauma-responsive in our approaches and also direct people to NHS services and work alongside these when individual situations require this.
Where there is the darkness of loss, anger, anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, suicidal thoughts and self-harm, Shine Youth is involved in restoring hope so that young people can shine.

Wellbeing Workshops
We run different workshops focused on the 5 Ways to Wellbeing each term at the Wellbeing Cafe

1:1 Pastoral Mentoring & Counselling for loss: bereavement & family breakdown
We spend the time needed to listen to young people struggling to cope with loss experienced through family breakdown and/or bereavement.
We build a relationship of trust and support to ensure they feel seen, heard, connected and valued.
We use person-centred counselling skills, grief theories and creative approaches to help young people understand and manage the complexity of emotions that are a part of loss (including anger, anxiety and low mood) every week for as long as required.

WELLBEING GROUPS
We have a growing menu of Wellbeing groups for young people in school years 7 - 9 and 10 - 13 which are creative and fun sessions to equip young people with evidence-based advice and a range of strategies to support their own mental and emotional health, positive self-esteem and identity.
These groups run for an hour each week for 6 or 7 weeks.

We also seek to keep young people at the centre of all we do through our YOUTH VOICE groups.
These groups engage young people to amplify their voices to:
Highlight
Inform
& Shape
the mental health and wellbeing services on offer to them.
